I heard a really great theory about pro lifers. Fetuses are the perfect group to advocate for. They can't make demands, and they don't need tax money for education, school lunch programs, etc. You can feel good about yourself while doing literally nothing (except hating on women which is a bonus.) You don't have to challenge the hierarchy or your own privilege or change anything about your comfortable little life. You can go on hating women and gays and minorities all while acting as if you are campaigning for justice and doing some good. You get to call yourself a Christian and pat yourself on the back while ignoring the way the biblical Jesus would've.

Awwww! I was the girl who was best friends with the gay guy. Sometimes people thought we were dating, but not even close, even though we went to prom together three times. We lived in a small town where no one was openly gay, and he was from a strict Christian family. When he was 20 I finally said to him- If you ever want to talk to me about the fact that you are gay, I'm here for you. He was living with a boy and STILL couldn't say it. He didn't come out to his mom until he was 40. Looking back I didn't understand how hard it was for him.

So we just had a car bombing in the UK, fortunately the guy only killed himself. He was Syrian, but a Christian convert. Of course, the far right wing trash fire has decided he was obviously lying, because we all know the only religion that does the terrorisms is the evil Islam. It's jaw dropping the lengths people will go to to avoid calling a spade a spade when it comes to non-Muslim terrorists.

I think it's Seventh Day Adventists...my grandma's church group she grew up in...they believed that part of your "duty" as a good Christian was to keep yourself healthy so you are there for your loved ones on this earth as long as possible. It's a very interesting mindset and one that I think more people should think about. I only say this because my DH too has gotten fat and lazy and stopped taking care of his health too. Although, I think he'd probably start caring if his dick stopped working lol

I have always been very anti-religion because my own Christian-ish upbringing left me with so many issues. But I listened to a journalist talk about the value of ritual and community and I think he's right. People are alienated and it becomes extremely easy to radicalise the alienated. I also think it's why this eastern mysticism culture has sprung up, because we're seeking something. I think we need to find a way to foster community and purpose without falling into total anti-science rhetoric. We're social animals and when we feel cut off from our society, not only is it really bad for us, but as we're learning, it's fucking dangerous. Because there are plenty of nefarious groups who want to recruit people for really sinister purposes. I say this as a deeply introverted person who has felt very lonely, and I'm only now realising how much damage it has done me. I'm not defending these people it's horrible. I'm interested in HOW we try and prevent this getting worse.

I will never understand how so called Christians can worship Trump, while believing that Joe Biden is evil. One of those men is a devout Catholic who goes to church every Sunday. One of them fucked a porn star while married and paid her for her silence. It's almost like they don't care about religion, only controlling women.

I am a Christian. My husband is a veteran. We both hate everything about Trump and what the Republican party stands for. My husband has a Veterans for Biden sign in our yard and sticker on his car, and he's been actively donating to Democratic campaigns. Most of the veterans and active duty military we know do not support Trump.

Same. I always thought because I was raised Christian, I should be Republican. I also was under the impression that because my husband was in the military, that meant that I was supposed to be Republican. When I met the other soldiers and their wives, sure there were gung-ho Republicans who were all "God and country" but there were others who Democrats and very progressive as well as atheist. I was actually told by my mom that I SHOULD be Republican because of my husband's career but this was from a woman who had absolutely no idea and was just going off of stereotypes as I once had. It took a lot of soul searching for me to realize that just because I am Christian, doesn't mean I am Republican. In fact, the closer I learned more about my faith, the more I started to lean towards being a Democrat. By the time my husband left the military, not only have I decided that I could no longer align myself with my former views of being an American and a Christian.

You sound like an actual Christian to me. There are a lot of people out there who think it's "Christian" to ignore and deny institutional abuse (not just within Catholicism, and not just sexual abuse, but physical and psychological), or that child marriage is "Christian," or that child-rearing tactics that essentially amount to at least, psychological abuse, sometimes even physical. A lot of people think this is consigned to the history books, but it's still happening. There are some incredibly repressive and backwards people in this country who somehow still have the audacity to claim Jesus is love, while being incredibly hateful towards children. Honestly the majority of people who are so hung up on abortion for religious reasons seem to be more about female control than saving babies. I'm sure there's a few, but the distinct minority.

Oh, and if you are a Christian who supports our current president, who lies, cheats, steals, mocks people, and is an adulterer who never attends church over a lifelong practicing Catholic, please explain your reasoning on how you think Trump is a better Christian?
