At 31 years old, I voted Dem for the first time today. My religious trauma nearly has me convinced I'm going to be dragged to hell, and my Southern upbringing has me concerned I'm going to be dragged off to prison LOL. But I did it. Being in a red state, I doubt it helped, but one can hope.

My H is a well known delivery driver in our area. He was pulling into a parking lot today and an older man nearly hit him. That man then got out of his car with a gun and threatened to shoot my husband for not "giving old people the respect they deserve." What the fuck? He also got my husband's phone number off the back of his truck. I'm really concerned. Obvs he called the sheriff, but I doubt they will do much. I hate guns and the South and old people. You don't deserve respect, you earn it.

I also relate in a way. One side of my family is straight Anglo, the other side is Asian and Southern European. While growing up in a predominately white, affluent area, with an Asian last name and dark skin, I experienced a lot of hate and discrimination - so race equality and inclusion are important to me. Fast forward to my 30s, when a family member on the first side presented me with a binder of our family history they'd been working on, tracing our lineage back several centuries. It was very disheartening to learn that my ancestors were plantation and slave owners. Not only did they trade their slaves, they "left" them to descendants in their wills along with furniture and livestock. like they were just onjects and not human beings. This hurts my heart to no end.

My husband is a feminist. He was raised in the deep south and finds his racist family abhorrent. He works hard. He prioritizes our marriage. He's funny as hell. He fixes stuff. He tells me I'm beautiful when I know God damn well I look like a gremlin. He loves cats and volunteers with a community cats program. He doesn't spend money on dumb shit. We set goals together and work towards them. He accepts me for me. He isn't perfect, though. Sometimes, he farts in bed. But, until they create a men without anuses, he'll do.

Just got back from a trip through southeast Ohio and West Virginia. The number of Trump signs was comical. So many rundown shacks and trailers with enormous Trump signs. They were everywhere.

I signed my DS10 up for homeschool band a few months ago, when I was still optimistic about COVID conditions. I just called to see if we can move our registration money to next semester bc it is still rampant here in the South and the director literally says "Well, yeah, but everybody is going to get it eventually so I'm just going ahead with classes anyway. We teach music here, babe, not science." I straight up forgot how condescending music people are. I left a music degree bc of people like him. Kind of want to talk my kid out of even trying music.

My 10yo has an eating disorder, but I don't know how to go about getting him help. He has always been greedy about food, to the point of throwing up, even when he was first born. I think it might have to do with the fact that I didn't get to bond due to him being in the NICU alone for 2 months? I could be wrong. But he will lie, cheat, and steal, to eat anything that has been denied him. He is gluten and lactose intolerant, so I have to limit his intake of things and I have found wrappers of stuff he can't have hidden in his room. He also eats what he can't have at school, and he'll harass my 4yo(no allergies) to the point of tears to get at his food. And he resents me terribly for the limits I put on him. But we live in the South. Land of obesity. People here don't do "eating disorders". So where do I start?

My husband and I knew each other for 4 months before moving in together. We will have our 10 year wedding anniversary in July. You can move in together and still be okay if things don't work out. Just keep your finances separate. If shit goes south, treat it like a bad room mate and move out.

I'd call CPS for real. I live in NJ. Even though I'm much further south from the epicenter, we already have hundreds of cases in my county. I just learned that a former coworker had it, and is thankfully recovering - she said this virus is no joke. I was down to my last thimble of milk from the three gallons I bought weeks ago (I froze the extras), and I was terrified to go out. I used to work in the medical field so I'm well-practiced in protection and cross-contamination, but a lot of people still aren't being proactive here. I popped into the Dollar Store to see if they had any more elastic for masks. No one was wearing gloves or masks or using sanitizer, and one person coughed with their mouth open. I was fully protected but practically ran out of there.

Even though "dinner" and "supper" generally mean the same thing, it depends on where you're from. DH is from the South and they call it supper. In different regions of the US, and in most parts of Europe, "dinner" (lunch) is eaten in the middle of the day and is a larger meal, whereas "supper" is a smaller meal eaten later at night.
