It's not just having the courage to do something. Studies have shown that armed security (including police) at schools actually make them LESS safe and result in more casualities during shootings. Teachers who are armed are also more likely to have that gun used against them than to save anyone. One pissed off high school kid can easily overpower a teacher to get a gun or get the key to a locked gun.

The UK police are now telling women basically to resist arrest if they suspect an officer might be a sexual predator. Seriously. They are blaming a woman who was raped and murdered by a police officer because she didn't know better than to, I guess, not resist arrest? Because they can't weed out the so-called "bad apples" in their midst apparently, even if the officer in question was given the nickname "The Rapist" by colleagues because he was such a creep. What happened is disgusting, but it looks like we're getting the police brutality misogyny edition, and it is long, *long* overdue.

IDK if anyone is following the Gabby Petito case, but I will be referencing the bodycam footage next time I hear some incel asshole whine about how women always have the upper hand during domestic violence complaints. Any fucking idiot could see that girl was terrorized, she was constantly apologizing for her behaviour, not to mention the 911 caller said the man hit the woman and it was the man going three times the speed limit, but the police turn it around so she's the aggressor. Even the language, "Oh, he grabbed her face to avoid hitting her because he knew he'd get in trouble," type of language. What a fucking joke. Any trust I had left in the police has now been eroded, not that there was much there.

At another open house, I asked if police have ever been called to the apartment / neighborhood before and he said yes. Apparently, one of the units is an AirBnb rental. It was a domestic violence issue. I've never ever asked this q at any apartment viewing before, but this one stood out among a long list that I didn't get to. Well, that's helpful info. I'm definitely not going to apply here.

I'm so angry and annoyed right now. Just had my yearly mammogram. One of my breasts has super dense tissue so they want me to get an ultrasound on it because they couldn't see through it on the xray. When I went to schedule it the lady told me that it would be $1,000 out of my own pocket. Yes I have health insurance but haven't met any out of pocket yet. So I had to cancel it. I just can't afford that right now. So sad that the US has such sucky health/insurance polices.

My sister is dyslexic. She is also brilliant. Like seriously brilliant and wildly successful. But because of her dyslexia, she can't spell for shit. I, on the other hand, have always been an excellent speller and was the spelling police. Until I saw how her learning disabilities affected her, I never thought about what I was doing or that spelling wasn't as easy for everyone. Words that she sees everyday, she will still misspell. She literally can't see that it's incorrect. Needless to say, I no longer correct or judge people's spelling.

I'm sure your reaction to AAVE is spectacular. Some people say "lie-berry." Just like a lot of people don't pronounce the second R in February. Most people also say "enviroment" not "environment." It's just the placement of particular letters. Fuck, the entire world apart from Australians pronounce Australia wrong...it's not Austrailia, yet everybody says it that way. It's not necessarily indicative of someone's education at all. You are a complete dick by the sounds of it. "Grammar police?" I always heard it as "Grammar Nazi," and that sounds a lot more accurate to me.

This was not an accent. This was mispronounced. Lie-berry is not some weird part of the local accent here. And he IS from here. And yes, I'm a grammar police type of person. I know that, I get it. I didn't say anything. I came here to do it, because I'm not a complete dick. The way people speak is an indicator of their education level though, like it or not. The education system is why we can't have nice things, not the uneducated people it produces. (Although the cycle does perpetuate itself) And I'm not surprised at all that someone with an education level that results in him saying lie-berry, doesn't frequent a library. Fuck it, I blame Republicans.

We had a high profile murder here in the UK this year, a young woman was murdered by a police officer. After the ensuing protests, the police proudly stated they were going to start putting plain clothes officers in bars and add some new sexual crimes to a list. Oh, great, thanks. Rape conviction rate here is 1.6%, many newspapers reported on that saying rape was basically decriminalised here. So instead of solving the problems they already have they've decided to create a bunch of new ones, paying lip service to sexual violence while continuing to do exactly fuck all about it. It's stupid in every sense of the word. Not only was this woman not killed after meeting someone in a bar, but it doesn't represent the fact that most women are killed by partners or ex-partners, this was actually quite a rare situation. Not to mention, I'm sure the types of officers who are going to volunteer to be around drunk women in bars are just exactly who we want NOT around us. They are clueless.

Neighbors in the city I live in called police because of a domestic violence situation. When they got there, the victim told them she was OK and her boyfriend had left. She didn't want to get police involved because they had a bad repuation and she was afraid of them. Long story short, they basically ended up beating the crap out of HER (the victim). That sheriff's office has had a HORRIBLE reputation for the 20 years I lived here. Everyone knew they abused their power and were racist AF. But nothing was ever done until everyone got cameras in their back pocket and started filming. Suddenly they are shocked. Bullshit. They knew all along and just didn't do anything about it. The former chief is under indictment because of a different incident (black man died during arrest). Now the cop in the domestic violencce case was arrested. Google Lorenzo Hernandez Williamson County. Every cop on that force knew shit like this happened every day and did nothing.
