This is super dumb and it amounts to nothing, but if I could be friend's with a celebrity it would be Jennifer Garner. I follow her on Instagram and she's so funny on her pretend cooking show segments. It's also very cool to see how she is making a difference in the world helping and supporting others.

My dh lost his job in early April because of covid. He was pretty depressed, and, out of boredom, he started an Instagram page for our pets. He just got a brand deal. Of everything I thought that might come of this virus, I did not ever think my husband would come out of it a cat Instagramer. This is a weird time to be alive.

To the person in my life STILL self promoting and shape shifting and needing one million head pats during this time: Stop! Please stop. You don't have to self promote on social media every single creative thing you do. Clearly you are still using The Secret "If I manifest it.." Stop! It's a new time and it's a time to be quiet. You're having some success-that's awesome! But it's also awesome if you don't tweet and instagram it. It's still real. You're over 50. Your family of origin is hyper competitive. But you are making success look so unattractive.

A family member of mine is selling some things on her Instagram an considers herself a social media influencer. She's a SAHM and she's making a big effort to help financially, so I'm hoping she does well. But most of the time I can't watch her stories because they're sometimes embarrassing. Recently she went on a rant about this whole virus situation and how she refuses to wear a mask and how she thinks it's all just ridiculous and the media, stores and public are making too big of a deal out of it. (she's also an anitvaxer). I really wish she personally knew a doctor or nurse that could give her a better picture of the reality of the situation. One of my neighbors told me 3 floors of the hospital she works at is dedicated to the covid patients. Yes, it's inconvenient what we're all going through to protect ourselves and others, but this is no joke. We have no choice but to follow protocol. I don't dare say that to her though because all hell will break loose.

So many people on Instagram are now posting #stayhome. Well I'd love to but I don't have the luxury of working from home, nor am I independently wealthy enough to take an unpaid leave of absence.

Some of them probably do it just for YouTube and Instagram views too. Like for the shock value or something....I personally don't get it but a lot of them make a lot of money by making videos of themselves drinking piss or doing a salt water cleanse.

This has been seen a million times before. New product comes out, there's little regulation, bad shit happens, government has to clamp down. I find both sides of this argument fucking stupid and a great example of how people can't take a sensible middle ground on everything anymore. Yes, vapes have helped loads of people quit smoking and regulated vape fluid is most likely a lot less dangerous than smoking. But there are people out there vaping because they like the way it looks, there's vaping competitions, I have seen a bunch of celebrities essentially promoting premium vape brands on their Instagram, there's entire articles dedicated to Sophie Turner's Juul, just because she's not saying "Hey kids, get a Juul," doesn't mean that's not influencing kids. Vaping has become fashionable like smoking once was, and new people are ending up with addictions and problems because of it. I really doubt as many kids would've started if they only had tobacco or menthol flavored flower.

When I go on vacation I find it very annoying when people want to stop and snap a hundred photos of everything. I feel sometimes like they're not really savoring the moment but instead thinking "Oh, this will look great on my Instagram/Facebook page!" and are too busy coming up with clever taglines and sayings. I just want to be in the moment. I don't even take my cell phohe with me at all times! GASP! I know! I still remember a time when you didn't have to have your phone with you everywhere you went! I just want to enjoy my time. Try reading a book.

I already said if she feels empowered that's great for her and I have no issue with that. But if you really think there's something revolutionary and feminist about a beautiful thin white woman getting naked on Instagram your feminism is as deep as a puddle.

If you consider the fact that women's bodies have only been celebrated while under the male gaze, it truly can be an empowering act of feminism to shamelessly show one's body. It's one reason why I get pissed when men complain about girls who take selfies. Yes, how dare a woman take a picture of herself, for herself, because she thinks she looks good. I follow a page on Twitter that has women, normal women, posing naked and it's awesome. I understand what you're saying about Instagram models who use filters and starvation to gain followers, essentially using body positivity as a means to make money, which sucks. But if Emily feels empowered being naked, good for her. She shouldn't hide her body because she looks good. The onus isn't on her to change beauty standards.
